Read the following terms and conditions before accessing the library’s wireless internet connection.

The Watertown Public Library offers free wireless Internet access to both library card holders and visitors. The library cannot guarantee a secure connection at all times and in all areas of the library. Nor can it guarantee the service will be available at any specific time or at any speed.

Patrons are responsible for knowing how to configure their own equipment and cannot expect library staff or other patrons to help them configure or troubleshoot their laptop or mobile device. Should a patron request assistance from a library staff member or a fellow patron, (s)he will be waiving all reasonable rights and cannot hold the library or any of its agents responsible in the event of data loss, inadvertent configuration of computer settings, or physical damage.

The Internet is an unregulated medium; patrons use it at their own risk. The user bears all responsibility for protecting their equipment from viruses and security attacks. The library Internet connection is open and unfiltered. Wireless access is sent over radio signals, allowing potential ‘eavesdropping’ by other users. Consider this when choosing whether to transmit confidential data such as credit card numbers, passwords, and any data of a personal nature.

The library does not assume responsibility for any damage, theft, alterations, interference or loss of any kind to a user’s equipment, software, data files or other personal property brought into or used at the library’s facilities. Furthermore, the library takes no responsibility for data lost due to connectivity issues. Neither library staff members nor fellow patrons can be held responsible for your equipment should it be left unattended. Any patron found using the wireless connection to tamper with another patron’s computer and/or files will be banned from both the public workstations and the wireless service. Patrons caught stealing equipment will be banned indefinitely from the library and will face legal repercussions as enforced by the State.

Printing is available from the library wireless connection using the Mobile Printing system. Directions for Mobile Printing are available at the second floor Reference Desk.

The library wireless connection shall not be used for either illegal or commercial purposes. Nor shall it be used to act as a temporary file or web server.

Wireless usage shall be consistent with the library’s mission, goals, policies, and procedures, and with applicable local, state, federal, and international laws. Inappropriate or illegal use of this resource in the library is prohibited and can result in suspension or permanent denial of Internet privileges. Inappropriate or illegal use includes, but is not limited to, infringement of copyright laws and transmission or reception of text or graphics which may reasonably be construed as obscene.

Access to the library wireless is limited to library open hours. The wireless will shut down 15 minutes before the library closes.

The library reserves the right to terminate a user’s wireless connection without warning.
