The Watertown Public Library aims to support parents, teachers and students who attend both public and parochial schools. Parents and caregivers are children’s first teachers, and we have a wide variety of programs and resources that support early literacy.

1,000 Books Before Kindergarten

1,000 Books Before Kindergarten is an early literacy program designed to encourage a love of books and reading in our youngest patrons!  Parents and caregivers commit to reading 1,000 books to the child in their lives, and the children earn small prizes along the way.  Visit the Children's Desk to learn more and get your young children registered.

500 Books Before Middle School

Our goal with the 500 Books Before Middle School program is to encourage children to read independently, support the local schools with reading proficiency in our community and to help children to fall in love with reading!  Visit the Children's Desk to learn more, get registered and receive your child's folder to get started.

Ready to start your reading adventure? Visit the library to register and pick up tracking logs.

1,000 Books and 500 Books are both made possible by the generous support of the Friends of the Watertown Public Library.

Book Bags

Our Book Bag service is a way for educators, child care providers, homeschool families, and organizations that offer services to children to request materials you need for your class or group. You’ll have a dedicated library assistant who will help gather titles customized for what you need.
