The Computer LAB at your library!


We are thrilled to announce a new addition to the library. Watertown Public Library is pleased to present THE COMPUTER LAB for the community, thanks to a generous donation by the Quirk Foundation!

Here is a list of offerings for May 2012:

Getting Started With Computers
Facilitated by the Jefferson County Literacy Council

Description:
Introduction to computer vocabulary and parts, as well as practice using the mouse and keyboard and creating files. For those who have not used a computer before or have struggled getting started. Registration required. Call or stop in at the library to register.

Location: Meeting Room #1 (first floor)

Date: Monday, May 14
Time: 6:00 p.m. - 7:30 p.m.


Introduction to Microsoft Word 2010
Facilitated by the Jefferson County Literacy Council

Description:
Learn to create a document, practice typing, check spelling, save and print using Microsoft Word 2010 on a Windows 7 computer. Registration required. Call or stop in at the library to register.

Open Computer Lab

Description:
Come in and work at your own self-directed pace with software like Professor Teaches, Learning Express, Microsoft Office 2010, Mavis Beacon Teaches Typing, Windows 7, Adobe Photoshop Elements, and more. Registration required. Call or stop in at the library to register. Please note: no instructors present during open labs.

Ebook Programs

EBOOK PROGRAM for ADULTS:

Date: Thursday, May 24
Time: 6:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.

Join us for an informative workshop on how to work with your eBook reader and OverDrive. OverDrive is the most popular system for borrowing eBooks, audiobooks, and more online from your public library and it is free to use with your library card.

Educational Programs for Adults

Watertown Public Library is pleased to welcome Kathi Strohbusch of Wisconsin Job Service. Kathi will be available in the library to help job seekers with everything from resume writing to the online application process. She will be available at the library in April on the 5th and the 19th from 12:30 p.m. - 4:30 p.m. by appointment. Job seekers can also take full advantage of free wi-fi, public use computers, and other materials/resources in the library to help land that dream job.

Please call the library to make an appointment. Walk-ins are welcome but, by appointment is best.

Book Club for Adults

Book Club and Discussion for Adults:

Here are all the details you need to know:

The BOOK CLUB will be reading four titles in 2012. For each book we will hold a book discussion at the library on the following dates:

Book #1: Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen
Reading Period: Wed., Feb. 15 through Sun., Apr. 15
Book Discussion: Thurs., Apr. 19, 6:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.

Book #2: Devil in the White City by Erik Larson
Reading Period: Sun., Apr. 15 through Fri., Jun. 15
Book Discussion: Mon., Jun. 18, 6:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.

Book #3: The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks by Rebecca Skloot
Reading Period: Fri., Jun. 15 through Wed., Aug. 15
Book Discussion: Thurs., Aug. 16, 6:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.

Book #4: The Hobbit by J.R.R Tolkien
Reading Period: Wed., Aug. 15 through Mon., Oct. 15
Book Discussion: Thurs., Oct. 18, 6:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.

Attend all four book discussions and you will automatically be entered into the KINDLE™ prize drawing.

How to get the books:
Register at the Reference Desk or over the phone! Upon registration you can borrow a copy of the first book. One week prior to the next book reading period you can come to the library and borrow the next title. The library will be randomly giving a free copy of one of the four books to each of the registrants, as well.

Please note: You must attend all four book discussions if you received a free book from the library. If you do not attend all four book discussions you will be charged for the book.
