Winter Reading Program

Get Fired Up for Reading at the Watertown Public Library! Our winter reading program begins on Monday, January 9, and runs until Saturday, February 25. We will offer special programs, crafts, and storytimes, plus prize drawings for all ages. We are very excited to announce a "Build the Chinese New Year Dragon Contest" between children and adults!!! Participants fill out one slip each time they reach an age-appropriate reading milestone, and in return they will receive a scale for their dragon. Decorating the scale is optional! The slips will then go into age-appropriate prize boxes to be eligible for drawings at the end of the program. Children will receive small prizes after their first two milestones and then keep playing for a chance to win their choice from the prize box. Young adult participants can win a Barnes and Noble nook e-reader.

What to do for each scale and raffle slip:
Children from birth to kindergarten: Read ten picture books
Elementary-aged children (1st through 5th grade): Read for three hours
Young adults (6th-12th grade): Read for five hours

On Sunday, January 29, at 1:00 p.m., the Zhong Yi Kung Fu Association of Madison will perform the traditional Chinese New Year Lion Dance throughout the Watertown Public Library! Join us to welcome them and enjoy an unforgettable experience.

As always, family events sponsored by the Watertown Public Library are free of charge and entertaining for all ages. Get fired up and spread the word about these exciting opportunities!
